When simple is right

A straight drop is exactly what it sounds like: fabric that rolls straight down from a discreet headbox, without side tracks. For verandahs, balconies and pergolas that already have some wind protection, it delivers shade, privacy and weather screening at the sharpest price of any outdoor blind. Wire-guided versions add cable guides that keep the blind tracking straight in a breeze.

Why you’ll love
straight drops

  • Best value outdoors. More coverage per dollar than any tracked system.
  • Clean look. Slim headbox, no side channels on the posts.
  • Same great fabrics. Sunscreen mesh for view and glare control, or PVC for full weather block.
  • Spring, crank or motorised operation.

Shade without shutting out the outdoors

Straight drops are ideal when you want relief from harsh sun without turning your outdoor area into an enclosed room. Sunscreen mesh cuts glare and helps reduce heat while maintaining airflow, daylight and your outlook. Drop the blind when the afternoon sun arrives, then roll it neatly away when you want the space completely open again.

Wire-guided when you need extra stability

For exposed edges or areas that catch an occasional breeze, wire guides give the blind additional support without the visual weight of full side tracks. Slim stainless-steel cables guide the bottom rail as the blind moves up and down, helping it stay aligned and reducing movement. It’s a neat middle ground between a completely free-hanging straight drop and a fully tracked zip screen.

Motorisation makes outdoor shade effortless

Motorisation is especially useful across larger verandahs, patios and entertaining areas. Lower the blinds from a remote or compatible control system when the sun hits, then raise them again without leaving your seat. Multiple blinds can also be operated together, giving you quick control over an entire outdoor area while keeping the installation clean and easy to use.
Motorisation is available in both battery-powered and 240V hardwired options.

Frequently asked questions

Straight drop or zip screen?

Zip screens win on wind and sealing; straight drops win on price and simplicity. Sheltered north- or east-facing spaces are usually fine with a straight drop; exposed bayside decks earn the zip system. We’ll tell you plainly which your space needs.

Do they flap in the wind?

In a stiff breeze an unguided blind will move; wire guides and bottom anchors tame it considerably. If your space cops regular wind, that’s the conversation where we suggest a zip screen instead.

What sizes can you make?

Custom widths to suit most single openings, with multiple blinds run side by side across long verandahs.
