Windows are where a house is actually entered

Front doors get the attention, but windows are the quiet risk: side and rear windows out of sight of the street, bedroom windows left open overnight, the laundry window nobody thinks about. A window screen fixes all three, because it is a barrier that stays in place while the window stays open.

Sliding and double-hung windows take a fixed screen across the opening. Awning and casement windows need the screen inside the frame so the sash can still wind out. Louvres screen from the inside. We work that out at the measure; you do not need to.

Which mesh belongs on a window

SecureView stainless mesh keeps the view, which matters more on a window you look out of every day than on a back door. It is also the one we fit near the water.

Xceed perforated aluminium is the value option and makes it harder to see in, which suits bedroom and street-facing windows.

Diamond Grille is the most affordable way to secure a run of windows, and on windows the grille pattern bothers people far less than it does on a door.

Insect and fly screens are the other half of the job. If a window only needs to keep mosquitoes and midges out, say so, and we will quote a fly screen rather than sell you a security screen you do not need.

Upstairs windows and fall prevention

A window more than two metres off the ground is a different problem. Restrictors that stop a window opening are the usual answer, and they work right up until somebody takes them off for the airflow.

BasiX is the purpose-built alternative: a barrier screen strong enough to hold a child's weight, compliant with the Kids Don't Fly code, so the window opens properly and the room gets the breeze back. It is a fall prevention screen and not a security screen, so on a window that needs both we quote SecureView.

New screens only, made for your openings

Every screen is made to the measured size of your window, and we install them ourselves. We do not repair or re-mesh existing screens: if the frames are done, we quote new ones.

One measure visit can cover the windows, the doors and anything else on the house, and you get one quote for the lot.

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair or re-mesh window screens?

No. We make and install new screens only, so if a frame or mesh has failed we measure the opening and quote a new screen.

Can security screens go on awning and louvre windows?

Yes. Awning and casement windows take the screen inside the frame so the sash still winds out, and louvres screen from the inside. We sort out which applies at the measure.

What stops a child falling out of an upstairs window?

Either a restrictor that limits how far the window opens, or a fall prevention screen. BasiX is the purpose-built screen for it and is compliant with the Kids Don't Fly code, which lets the window open fully while the barrier does the work.

Are security window screens worth it if I already have doors done?

Usually, yes. A screened door on a house with open unscreened windows moves the easy entry point rather than removing it, and window screens are the cheaper half of the job.

Do window screens stop insects as well?

Security mesh keeps insects out too. If insects are the only concern, a fly screen costs a fraction of a security screen and we will tell you when that is all you need.
